Tim McOwan is a former Commanding Officer of the Special Air Service Regiment, the Special Operations Commander Australia, the Head of Defence Staff in Washington DC and has worked in the intelligence and national security community for many years. 

Tim has over 45 years’ experience in leadership, planning and the command of operations combined with extensive leadership and management at the highest levels. His deep experience in planning unconventional military operations and intelligence operations in both the Australian Defence Force and the intelligence community has built judgement and skill in determining alternate, pragmatic solutions and a proven capacity for deep analytical thought. He is a recognized and effective leader with demonstrated highly effective leadership in both combat and at the strategic level.

Tim has broad international work experience and has lived and worked in the UK, the Middle East and the USA. He is conversant with the Federal interdepartmental level having worked extensively at that level in national security and intelligence matters over many years. He has comprehensive experience in working with Federal, State and Territory governments and intelligence and law enforcement agencies in Australia and other nations. Tim is a graduate of the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University Senior Executives in National and International Security and the Harvard Club of Australia Leadership Program. He holds a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Arts in Strategic Studies. Tim is an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) and has been awarded the Distinguished Service Cross (DSC) for leadership in action and the Conspicuous Service Medal (CSM) for leadership in peacekeeping. He retains the highest level security clearance and is Chairman and Deputy Chairman on several boards in both the public and private sectors.

Tim is married to Dominica and has two adult children.
