Peter Lambert

Mr Peter Lambert has had an extensive career across a range of information, intelligence and communications technology areas.

In his most recent role as Chief Research Services in the Defence Science and Technology Group he led and managed a division providing research services including science information and technology, specialist laboratory and research infrastructure, systems, safety and security, and scientific engineering services. This role included the leadership of the establishment of Defence’s first large scale, secure, research supercomputers and Defence’s secure cloud research environments. In his previous role as Head of Business Operations, Defence Materiel Organisation, his responsibilities included business process improvement, information management and business systems.

He was also responsible for the sustainment of Defence’s logistics Enterprise Resource Program (ERP) and the delivery of a major upgrade to this system. Other appointments have included senior executive (including as a Brigadier in the Australian Defence Force) responsibilities in the areas of information management, ICT infrastructure provision, ERP support and upgrade, program and project management, information operations, communications intelligence, electronic warfare and related fields of endeavour. He has led successful transformation and change in all these areas. He has had extensive experience in user requirements development and capability management.

He has been the project director of a significant distributed computing and communications project. Peter has two Masters’ degrees, in defence & policy studies and information technology. He is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Fellow of the Australian Computer Society. He is a keen mountaineer, orienteer and cross-country skier and has been part of two successful Everest expeditions (1988 and 2001).
